Not long ago, at about 12.00 pm, my telephone rang, while I was working on the computer.
On the other end of the phone, Mikhail Gorbachev speaking.
Former Russian president and my old friend. He asked: ‘Do you have news about the meeting of yesterday in Hamburg?’ I replied that I didn’t know more than I got from the TV and from the news agencies. But he interrupted me with a firm voice
and a vibrant, unusual pitch.
